Coloring Inside the Lines
When sensitivity meets a world of contradictions.
“They say rules are made to be broken.”
I’ve carried that sentence with me for years, never quite understanding it.
As a child, I colored inside the lines.
Not because I lacked imagination, but because I believed the lines meant something. Rules felt like quiet agreements that helped us move through life together. If they existed, they deserved respect.
It made sense to me.
Perhaps that’s why this world has often felt so bewildering.
The older I become, the more I notice that many of the people who ignore the rules seem to move ahead. They are admired for breaking boundaries, praised for taking shortcuts, rewarded for bending what others faithfully uphold.
Sometimes I wonder...
When did integrity become negotiable?
For clear souls, this world can feel unbearably loud.
Especially for those who experience life without thick walls around their hearts. Souls who absorb the atmosphere of a room before a single word is spoken. Souls who feel the emotions beneath the smiles, who notice the contradictions others have learned to ignore.
Everything passes through them.
Without a filter.
Without protection.
I recognize this sensitivity more and more in the younger generations. The new souls arriving here carry an openness that is both beautiful and vulnerable. Yet they enter a world that constantly speaks in opposing truths.
Be authentic... but don’t stand out.
Be kind... but don’t be weak.
Follow the rules... unless breaking them brings success.
It’s no surprise that so many lose their sense of direction.
Maybe they aren’t lost at all.
Maybe they’re simply searching for something real in a world that often rewards appearances over authenticity.
And perhaps coloring inside the lines was never about obedience.
Perhaps it was about honoring something sacred within ourselves—the quiet knowing that integrity is still worth choosing, even when no one is watching.

YOU MIGHT HAVE MISSED THIS
Another month has come to a close, and June brought with it stories, reflections, poetry, and moments of inspiration.

Such a good piece, Be.
One that starts with a simple childhood memory and expands into something a lot bigger.
There's an underlying question I sense in this
"What happens when someone who naturally values honesty and consistency lives in a culture that increasingly treats both as optional?"
We should never change to fit in, but how does that leave us in a society where some may not value that.
Lovely writing as always.
It’s exhausting to watch people cheat the system and get a standing ovation for it while you're left holding the bag just for having a conscience. That realization that keeping your word is a solo act, and doing it anyway, is where the real, quiet strength is ✨
